Feral Cats

Welcome to Tender Heart Haven!

Our sanctuary was originally created out of a need to house and care for feral (wild) cats who had no place to go.  These were cats that were humanely trapped through the TNR (Trap/Spay-Neuter/Return) Program.  Normally, these feral cats would be returned to their original colony after being altered.  There they would live out their lives, while being fed and watched over by a caretaker.  Often times, there were situations that would have made it heartless and inhumane for us to have returned them back to the colony. There were injured and/or sickly feral cats that were in need of long-term care.  Or there was no caretaker to look after them and they would have been forced to survive on their own.  Or returning them would have put them in harms way due to human and/or living situation issues.  Or occasionally, we would trap a friendly cat whose owner had dumped them and although initially appeared feral, they were just terrified from being thrown into the outside world.  So began Tender Heart Haven.

Then along came the elderly cats that lost their person.  Sadly, they were taken to the animal shelter to await adoption, which for the elderly cat is a rare possibility.  Or the families brought them to the veterinarian to be euthanised because they did not want the cat and it was an inconvenience.  So Tender Heart Haven grew.

When an injured or sick stray cat was brought into our veterinarian, again with a rare chance of adoption because of the expense and long term care involved, we couldn’t say no!  Some cats were brought in and left by their owners because of aggression, litter box issues or just because the cat had some issue that was simply inconvenient.  So Tender Heart Haven opened our doors once again and continued to grow.

Our sole purpose here at Tender Heart Haven is to provide lifetime refuge for these precious cats!  Here they will live life on their terms.  They will be safe, loved and cared for.  We will provide all veterinary needs and hospice, when needed.  These special furry little ones will never ever again to be dumped, tossed aside or unwanted.

The Animal Savior
by Jim Willis

I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter..
the cast offs of human society.

I saw in their eyes love and hope,
Fear and dread,
Sadness and betrayal.

And I was angry.

"God", I said, "This is terrible!
Why don't you do something?"

God was silent for a moment,
and then He spoke softly,
"I have done something", he replied.

"I created you."
